Everyone wants to feel safe in their homes, yards, and neighborhood. Therefore, we are asking for your help to keep Porpoise Point Safe. Here are some ways to help and information:

  1. Take personal responsibility for making sure that your automobiles are locked, with no personal effects (i.e, purses, electronics) in view. If you are not parked in your garage, always try park in a visible, well lit area.
  2. Give us your name, e-mail address, and phone number so that we can contact you readily with information affecting your safety. Please send info to sgillespie218@yahoo.com. Let us know if you would like this information added to the neighborhood directory or kept private and used only for neighborhood watch notifications. Volunteer to be a block captain for our neighborhood watch program. Contact Nancy Ashe (904) 669-4272 or Sandy Gillespie at 819-5986.
  3. Get to know your neighbors so you can tell if a person, car, or activity is normal or suspicious. Let your neighbors know when you are out of town. Ask them to collect your newspapers and mail or put a hold on delivery. Areas of low crime are those where neighbors interact.
  4. Report suspicious activities. This could be a slow-moving automobile that appears to be casing the area, people that you can’t identify or that look suspicious, or people in the neighborhood at odd hours. Call your neighbor to confirm that an activity is normal or call the police reporting a suspicious activity. Trust your instincts. If it is nothing, so be it, but if you saved a neighbor from experiencing a loss as a result of criminal activity, priceless. For Emergencies call 9-1-1. To report suspicious activity call the St Johns County Sheriff’s office at (904) 824- 8304. Then be sure to share the information with your neighbors and block captain(s).
  5. Segments of our neighborhood are quite dark. Street lights are only placed at intersections, which leaves large sections unlit. Unsavory people that are looking for access to your home want to remain anonymous. They will also look for the path of least resistance.  A well-lit area is not their first choice. Some things that you can do individually to make your home safer and less attractive to criminals are:
  • Lock your doors (even when you are home).
  • Light your area. Motion sensors are a good option.
  • Keep your garage doors closed and locked.
  • Don’t leave bicycles outside
  • Always lock your vehicles

We ask for all of us, as neighbors to participate in this Neighborhood Watch Program.
